An Important Message
GOD'S GIFT TO ALL MEN IS ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST
"THE BIBLE TELLS US THAT ETERNAL LIFE IS A FREE GIFT"
Romans 6:23b
"But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus
Christ our Lord"
- The GIFT is free.
- The GIFT is eternal life.
- ETERNAL LIFE means a personal relationship with God in this life, and a promise of heaven in the life to come.
- The GIFT is a person - the person of Jesus Christ.
Who is this gift given to?
Romans 3:23
"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of
God"
- The verse says ALL have sinned, that means me, you and everyone.
- SIN is anything we say, think, do, or don't do that is displeasing to God.
- We have ALL fallen short of the mark of absolute perfection, which means to be without sin.
God warns us of the seriousness of our sin and that there is a penalty.
Romans 6:23
"The wages of sin is death"
- WAGES - Something you earn.
- SIN - Singular, one.
- DEATH - Penalty for sin, eternal separation from God.
- The DEATH refers to a spiritual death, which is a separation from God, to a place called HELL. HELL is the penalty for sin. HELL is a literal place.
God also warns that the penalty for sin cannot be removed by the good things that we do.
Ephesians 2:8-9
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man
should boast"
- GRACE - God's Love and unmerited favor something we all do not deserve.
- SAVED - Spared from the penalty of sin and promised a home in heaven.
- FAITH - Believing and acting on God's promises.
- NOT OF WORKS - Being good and doing good works will not save you, we are saved and spared the penalty of sin by faith. We also see that faith is also a gift from God.
God has a provision and that provision is Christ.
1 Peter 2:24a
"Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on
the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto
righteousness:...."
- OWN SELF - Being Christ himself
- BORE our sins - Christ paid the penalty for our sins
- WHO His own self - Bore my sins and your sins in His own body on the cross
The Bible tells us that.
1 John 1:7b
"...The blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanses us from all sin."
- This verse answers man's basic problem which is..."How can I have my sins forgiven?"
- The penalty for our sins was paid for by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. His blood is sufficient to cleanse us of any sin ever committed. He is God's perfect provision for our problem. He shed His blood for the payment of our sins.
God's way to certain Eternal Life.
Romans 10:13
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
- WHOSOEVER - anybody
- SHALL CALL - to believe in your heart that Christ died for your sins and rose again. To put faith in Christ by calling upon Him to come into your life to save you from your sins.
- SHALL BE SAVED - is God's promise not only to spare you from the penalty of sin but to take you to heaven one day.
This call on the name of the Lord also involves repentance.
Luke 13:3
"I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent ye shall all likewise perish."
- REPENT - To turn in your mind from the wrong way of thinking to get to heaven and to turn to God's way by faith in His Word.
- PERISH - To be eternally separated from God in hell.
Christ illustrates what he wants to do in the heart and life of every person.
Revelation 3:20
"Behold I stand at the door, and knock; if any man
hear my voice and open the door, I will come to him, and sup with
him, and he with me."
- I stand at the door - The door represents our heart. Christ is making us aware that we need to invite Him into our life.
- My Voice - Is the Bible, through the Bible we learn how to receive Christ.
- Open the door, I will come in - When we by faith believe and act on the promises of God by inviting Christ into our life. He comes into our life, forgives us of all sin and promises us a home in heaven.
